Teach Your Dog These 7 Fun and Easy Dog Tricks

Dogs truly are one of the best friends a human can have. They're loyal, fun, affectionate, and smart.

There are plenty of great ways to interact with your dog, but one of the most fun ways is to teach them tricks. Dog tricks can be used as a way to train them, a way to bond with your dog, or simply a fun trick to entertain guests when they come over.

Paw Tricks

Shake Hands (Paws)

This is one of the most common dog tricks and is a pretty easy one to teach. Dogs like human interaction and using their paws, and this combines both.

As with most dog tricks, the key is positive reinforcement, whether that's by using kind words and pets or by using treats. Lift the paw while saying "shake hands" or "shake paws" and reward the dog. After a few times of repeating this, the dog should be able to do this on command.

This trick is the most basic paw trick and can be used as a stepping stone to learning more advanced tricks with the paws. It's a great intro to dog training.

High Five

Dogs like to paw at you to get your attention, and that's not always the most pleasant way to be addressed. Teaching your dog a high five is fairly easy. It's a great way to prevent your dog from hitting you with its paws in an unwanted manner, as it will usually only do it on command once it's learned the trick.

Wave

This one is similar to both shake hands and high five but without the physical contact. Once your dog knows the previous two, it shouldn't be hard to teach it to wave. Wave is a great trick for your dog to greet guests or say goodbye as they're leaving. It will have your dog being a favorite in no time.

Roll Over

Teaching your dog to roll over isn't quite as easy as paw tricks, but it's still one of the more basic dog tricks and is a great building block for other tricks. For this trick you'll usually need to physically move your dog and teach the trick in parts. Once your dog has this one mastered they'll love doing it, and it's so adorable.

Play Dead / Belly Up

This trick is so much fun and is an easy progression from rolling over. Simply teach your dog to stop mid-roll, belly in the air. It's cute, easy, and so much fun.
